Students of SEU visited Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company

Students of EEE and ETE Departments visited Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL)
The final year students of the programs of B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) and B.Sc. in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (ETE) of the Departments of EEE and ETE of Southeast University took part in a 2-day-long study tour to the Landing Station of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL) at Cox’s Bazar on 1-2 April2017. The prime objective of this tour was to help the students to have practical knowledge on submarine telecommunication system, the main backbone of long distance telecommunication network of our country and also how landing stations of different countries are connected to the information super high way. Twenty (20) students including one female student led by Dr. Engr. Muhibul Haque Bhuyan, Chairman of EEE and ETE Departments participated in the tour. Besides,Mrs. Anika Aziz, Assistant Professor of EEE Department also participated. They guided the students during the study tour.
The tour consisted of two parts. On the first day, the students and the Faculty Members went to visit sea beaches and few places of Cox’s Bazar, such as, Inani and Sugandha beaches, Himchhari, Burmese market etc.
On the second day, the students and the Faculty Members went to visit the Landing Station of BSCCL where they were briefed about the vision, mission, objectives, history, benefits of this establishment, capacity, services and general functions of this company etc. Then they were explained about the optical fiber’s construction and working principles and how this fiber is used in SEA-ME-WE system. Finally, they showed few pictorial views of the cable laying procedures, monitoring, surveillance, maintenance and troubleshooting of this landing station.
Students and Faculty Members came back to Dhaka on 3 April 2017 with practical experiences and lots of amusement through this study tour. Their theoretical knowledge on optical fiber communication is supplemented with this study tour.
