EEE Department of SEU organized a day-long Workshop on “Nano Antenna Design for Energy Harvesting Using COMSOL Multiphysics”

In this present digital era, we can think nothing about development without science, engineering and technology. Southeast University (SEU) is always keen to provide its helping hands for innovation and inspiration for its Faculty Members and students. For engineering students, practical simulation of all theoretical aspects is very important for future research and development. COMSOL Multiphysics gives a better platform for researchers to analyze and simulate on different modules of not only on Electrical and Electronic Engineering discipline but also on other engineering disciplines.

Keeping this in mind, Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) Department organized a day-long Student Workshop on “Nano Antenna Design for Energy Harvesting Using COMSOL Multiphysics” on 9 January 2017 at its permanent campus at Tejgaon. The workshop stared at 10:00 am by the inaugurating speech of Honorable Chairman of EEE Department Dr. Engr. Muhibul Haque Bhuyan. He said that without proper training no one can be skilled enough to compete in the job market. Therefore, EEE Department is interested to train its students on regular basis on several research and job related fields of EEE. He urged the students to participate actively in the workshop so that they can take the most out of it and later can use this knowledge for doing quality research and best engineering design and development practices accordingly. He said that this will also be helpful for their graduate admission at home and abroad.

This Student Workshop was conducted by Engr. Rishad Arfin, Graduate Researcher, Computational Electromagnetic Laboratory, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, McMaster University, Ontario, Canada as the Resource Person of the workshop. He explained the nano antenna and its design issues. He said that the nano antenna is a transducer which converts the free radiation of electromagnetic waves into localized electric field through Surface Plasmon Polariton (SPP). He pointed out that this localized electric field can be considered as the ‘hot-spot’ from where ac current can be collected. He mentioned that the successful incorporation of nano antenna and diode can be employed to harvest energy to meet the ever increasing energy demand of the world. Then he demonstrated about COMSOL basics and taught how it works. Then he gave a very vivid idea about different types of nano antennas and how to design and simulate it in COMSOL Multiphysics software.

After the end of the workshop at 05:00 pm, a certificate giving ceremony was organized at the seminar hall of the permanent campus. In this program, Honorable Chairman of EEE Department, Dr. Engr. Muhibul Haque Bhuyan was present as the Chief Guest. He expressed his thanks to the resource person for coming here to train the students and expected that more students will participate in such type of research workshops organized by the department in future.

After that Honorable Chairman of EEE Department distributed the certificates and crest among the participants and resource person of the student workshop respectively.

Twelve (12) final year students participated in the workshop. Engr. Rishad was ably supported by Mr. Abdullah Al Mahfuzar Rahman, Lecturer of EEE Department during this day-long workshop.
