The Launching Ceremony of the Foundation for Learning, Teaching and Research (fLTR) was held at 3 pm on 03 January, 2017 at the auditorium of ULAB. Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury presided the ceremony while Hon’ble Chairman of University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC), Professor Abdul Mannan, graced the occasion as Chief Guest and announced the formal launching of the foundation. Professor Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Head of Quality Assurance Unit of UGC and Mr. Jim Scarth, OBE, Deputy Director, British Council were present as the Special Guests. The launching ceremony was attended by a large number of academicians from different sectors and faculty members of different universities.
The foundation has been created based on the findings of intensive research on the quality of teaching and learning at higher education in Bangladesh. As an initial initiative, the foundation is going to offer a three days certificate course on Teaching for Active Learning (TAL). The course has been specially designed for the faculty members of private and public universities to be held from 05—07 January, 2017. A group of 41 faculty members from 19 public ( 5) and private ( 14) universities is attending this course. The course will be facilitated through workshop mode and will deal with fundamental requirements for the teaching and learning at the university level. However, the foundation is also planning to offer Diploma Course on Teaching, Learning and Research in coming days. The fLTR is a collective initiative of nine vice chancellors of reputed private universities under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Jamilur Reza Choudhury with a mission of influencing and improving learning and teaching practices and preparing competent, ethically driven learners’ centered professional teachers and researchers at the university level.
