Higher education in Norway is offered by a range of eight universities, nine specialized universities, 24 university colleges as well as a range of private university colleges.

Public education is free. Norway maintained two semester which is starts from August to December and from January to June. 

Since 2005 any college offering five master programs and four doctoral programs can title themselves a university, leading to the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Stavanger University College and Agder University College converting to universities.
